Introduction

Every real estate deal inevitably includes the need to share and store files and documents. Within Shaker, you can store those files along with their associated deal. A deals document folder can also work as a shared folder with your clients who are using the Shaker client portal.

Shaker supports the following file types:

PDF, JPEG, PNG, XLS, DOC

Tutorial

Uploading a Document

  • First, open the deal where you want to add the document and click on the documents tab.

  • From the documents tab, you can click the add symbol + or drag and drop documents into the folder.

Sharing and Organizing

Once a document is added you will be presented with additional options for sharing and organizing.

  • To share the document with a client check the box next to "Show in client portal"
  • To have the document satisfy a document on your checklist, choose that document from the dropdown menu selections. Related Article: How to setup up document checklists.
  • For better organization, you can also create sub-folders within your documents folder. Existing documents can then be dragged & dropped into your folders.

Document Actions

Once a document is uploaded to Shaker, you have several options available under the actions menu.

  1. View an existing document (or open in Shaker)

  2. Download the document to your computer

  3. Show or hide that document within the client portal

  4. Delete the file from Shaker

Exporting Documents

From the actions menu on a deal, you have the ability to export. Exporting a deal will download a zipped file with all of the documents that have been uploaded to that deal as well as notes and tasks.

Troubleshooting Errors

On occasion, you may receive an error message when attempting to upload, preview or download a document. Below are common reasons for issues:

File Name

A common cause of file upload or download failure is a filename that is incompatible with Shaker or even your browser. We recommend removing white spaces, hyphens, commas or other characters in the filename and sticking to only letters and numbers.

File Extension

Another common reason for file upload or preview failure is caused by the type of file being uploaded. Check your file's extension (example .pdf) is one of the following file types: .jpg, .pdf, .xls, .doc, .png.

Note: Shaker will allow you to upload or download .xls and .doc but they cannot be previewed from your documents folder.

Browser Limitations

There is a simple solution to browser limitations when it comes to file uploading. The best way is to update your browser with its latest version. If this does not work, then you can try installing another browser on your computer. This should resolve your problem.
